How it Started

The Caldera Spas story began in 1976, when a small fiberglass shop called Custom Fiber Engineering Inc. built a couple of custom spas for a customer. That early vision laid the foundation for what would become one of the most respected hot tub brands in the industry. That project planted the seed for something much bigger. A year later, David Ingram bought out the partners and officially launched Caldera Spas. His goal? To grow the brand into one of the top spa companies in the world.

Things really took off when Caldera Spas joined the Watkins Wellness family. With Watkins’ manufacturing expertise and leadership in the spa industry, Caldera Spas was able to grow while staying focused on what mattered most: creating a spa experience that helps people step out feeling better than when they got in.

An Evolution of Comfort

From the beginning, Caldera Spas approached hot tub design differently. Back in the early 1980s, many hot tubs had straight sides and rigid seating. They worked, but they weren’t designed for true relaxation. Caldera Spas' engineers believed there was a better way. Instead of molding spa interiors with simple, linear seats, they built them around the human body.

That idea helped shape the brand’s focus on comfort, design, and performance, and it’s how Pure Comfort^® seating was born. With curved, ergonomic seats that support the body naturally, Pure Comfort seating positions you perfectly for massage. Instead of adjusting yourself to fit the spa, the spa fits you.

Hydrotherapy soon became another defining part of the Caldera Spas experience. Hot Tub Circuit Therapy^® allows spa owners to move through a series of seats, each delivering a different massage. With jets placed exactly where they’re needed, the system targets key muscle groups to create a restorative, full-body soak.

Today, when you sit in a Caldera spa, you can feel the intention behind the design. The seats feel natural, the jets hit the right spots, and the massage is both powerful and relaxing.

To this day, Caldera Spas continues to evolve, finding new ways to elevate the hot tub experience. Innovations like FreshWater^® IQ, which combines the FreshWater Salt System with Smart Monitoring and Precision Dosing, help simplify water care while keeping spa water clean, balanced, and natural-feeling.
